Breakfast Roundtable: Investing to Address Income Inequality

Date: Wednesday, 24 October 2018
Time: 08:00 – 10:30
Location: Ontario Heritage Centre, 10 Adelaide Street East, Toronto, Ontario M5C 1J3, Canada

The Investment Integration Project (TIIP), SHARE and the PRI will co-host a breakfast roundtable on Wednesday 24 October on how investors can address and respond to income inequality.

The event will support the launch of the forthcoming TIIP and PRI publication Why and how investors can respond to income inequality. The report demonstrates the potential risks of income inequality to investors — particularly to long-term investment performance and the overall stability of societal systems and financial markets — and offers practical insights on how investors can reasonably begin to contend with such a complex and daunting challenge.

Although the causes of income inequality are many, the report focuses on three themes most well-suited for investor action:

  1. employee relations and the labor market,
  2. corporate tax policies and practices,
  3. and CEO compensation.

Presentations at the event will situate the topic in the context of broader changes within capital markets, unpack key findings from the research, and a panel will discuss what actions investors can take to address income inequality in their investment and stewardship policies and practices.

Preliminary Meeting Agenda:

8:00 – 8:30am: Registration

8:30 – 8:40am: Welcome and introduction

8:40 – 8:50am: Applying a systems lens to income inequality

8:50 – 9:05am: Discussion of new report and key findings

9:05 – 9:55am: Panel: Why should investors care and what can they do?

9:55 – 10:15am: Q&A with audience

10:15 – 10:30am: Closing and next steps

10:30am: Event close

This event is co-hosted by TIIP, SHARE and the PRI.
