ICGN: Global Stewardship Principles

icgnEstablished in 1995 as an investor led organization, the International Corporate Governance Network’s (ICGN) mission is to promote effective standards of corporate governance and investor stewardship to advance efficient markets and sustainable economies worldwide.

In 2016, ICGN published its Global Stewardship Principles. Among other recommendations, ICGN calls for investors to collaborate with each other “to promote collective engagement”; where relevant “to engage with policy makers on issues that affect responsible engagement”; and, to “build awareness of long-term systemic threats, including ESG factors relating to overall economic development, financial market quality and stability, and should prioritize the integration of system-level risk and respect for basic norms (e.g. anti-corruption, human rights) over short-term value.”
