Save the Date for TIIP‘s 6th Annual Symposium

TIIP‘s 6th Annual Symposium on System-level Investing will be held on April 14, 2027.

This past April, TIIP launched the Total Portfolio & Systems Intelligence (TPSI) Project at the Symposium, and in April 2027 we will deliver the results of Phase 1.

We will share overviews of the 3-part series of white papers we plan to publish in the months ahead as well as the field-tested TPSI framework, engineered to give investors decision-useful intelligence about both their exposure to systemic risk and their influence on the systems their portfolios depend on. The Symposium will also feature speakers from the TPSI Cohort and Advisory Group, whose firms are profiled in the Case Studies (Part III).

Mark your calendars now, and watch this space for more details to follow in the months ahead. As in past years, space will be limited for in-person attendance, but those who cannot be accommodated in the room will be able to follow along virtually.

See you there!

On the Radar

September 9, 2026 – Future of Finance Podcast, Capital Market Assumptions & System Level Investing, with Scott Kalb & William Burckart

This episode is part of an ongoing Systeml-level Investing series, featuring the chapter authors of The Handbook of Systeml-level Investing. Most capital market assumptions used across the investment industry are built almost entirely on historical data, which is a methodology that’s worked for decades but may be reaching its limits as climate change reshapes long-term economic trends.

Host Georges Dyer is joined by Scott Kalb, former CIO and Deputy CEO of the Korea Investment Corporation and now Director of the Responsible Asset Allocator Initiative at Tufts University’s Fletcher School, along with William Burckart, CEO of The Investment Integration Project and an associate editor of the Handbook.

They dig into Chapter 14, co-authored by Kalb and Paul O’Brien (Wyoming Retirement System board; former Deputy CIO of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority). This chapter is built around one foundational question for institutional investors: do your capital market assumptions account for systemic risk?

September 17, 2026 – Not Just AI and Climate—Inequality Also an ‘Existential’ Threat That Demands Global Cooperation: UN Chief

Ahead of the UN General Assembly’s high-level week, Secretary-General António Guterres warned that alongside the climate emergency and runaway AI, “the intolerable deepening of inequalities” is an existential threat that leaders must address.

TIIP has long held the view that extreme wealth concentration erodes the consumer demand, social stability, and institutional trust that market returns depend on, making inequality, in turn, a systemic, non-diversifiable risk. Guterres’ point that climate, inequality, and international cooperation are inseparable reinforces the case for investors to address these risks as one interconnected system, using their capital and influence to strengthen it.

September 22, 2026 – Future of Finance Podcast, How to Work with Your Consultant on System-level Issues with Max Messervy

This episode is part of an ongoing System-level Investing series, featuring the chapter authors of The Handbook of System-level Investing.

Host Georges Dyer is joined by Max Messervy, founder of Oakledge Advisors and former Head of Sustainable Investment, Americas at Mercer.

They dig into Chapter 12, “How to Work with Your Consultant on System-level Issues,” authored by Messervy. This chapter is built around one foundational question for institutional investors: is your consultant relationship actually structured to serve your interests, or theirs?

September 30, 2026 – Future of Finance Podcast, Different Organizations, Different Leverage Points with John Hoeppner

This episode is part of the ongoing System-Level Investing series, produced alongside The Handbook of System-Level Investing.

A trillion-dollar index manager and a $15 billion family office can both practice system-level stewardship, but the leverage points, and the duties behind them, are not the same.

Host Georges Dyer is joined by John Hoeppner, Head of Strategic Relationships & Active Ownership at Builders Vision, who previously led U.S. stewardship and sustainable investment at Legal & General Investment Management America (LGIM America). Hoeppner is the author of Chapter 5, “Different Organizations, Different Leverage Points,” in The Handbook of System-Level Investing, edited by Jon Lukomnik and William Burckart. The chapter asks a foundational question: does system-level stewardship look different depending on whether you represent thousands of index fund clients or a single family’s mission, and if so, what does each seat actually make possible?
