Since 1989, Ceres has worked with investors and business leaders “to build a thriving, sustainable global economy.” As of 2016, its network of member organizations numbered more than 130.
In June 2016, it published an updated version of its study The 21st Century Investor: Ceres Blueprint for Sustainable Investing. This report outlines ten key steps that institutional investors can take on the road to implementation of sustainable investment programs. Among them are the development of a Statement of Investment Beliefs, establishment of Board-level oversight, assessment of material sustainability risks to portfolios, and evaluation of manager performance against sustainable investment expectations. It stresses the crucial role of trustees in this process.
